About

Y Sort It is a youth service in West Dunbartonshire which has been running since 2000 and has grown to meet the needs of the community. Y Sort It…

  • Is a young person led service.
  • Provides opportunities that respond to the support needs of local young people.
  • Inspires young people to reach their full potential.

Locations

Y Sort It is based in Clydebank and training is usually held in The Hub Community Centre which is just next door, or online, however our intandem mentoring service supports and encourages children and young people across West Dunbartonshire.

Aims

The intandem service is run by Y Sort It in West Dunbartonshire. Y Sort It is a youth project which provides a number of services in response to the needs of the young people in the community. Examples of these include ‘Wrecked and Wasted’ which provides information for young people on substance misuse, ‘Fresh Creations’ which is our youth arts hub, Young Carers service which provides support for young people who have a caring role and ‘Fusion’ which is our LGBT youth group. We also have ‘Buddy Up’, our highly successful peer mentoring service for young people who have had experience of being in care. intandem is our mentoring service for children 8-14 years old who are looked after at home. Mentors need to be over 18 years old and have an enthusiasm to spend several hours per week with a child looked after at home in West Dunbartonshire. Each mentor will receive 20 hours of training which will include topics such as child development, boundaries, confidentiality and child protection, as well as input being provided for the training from local partners from other agencies. Once matched with a young person, volunteers will be supported within their role and training will be ongoing. Mentoring Helps Young People By…

  • Providing them with a positive role model.
  • Supporting them and giving advice.
  • Helping them to build trust.
  • Engaging them in positive activities.
  • Helping them to achieve goals.
